About Us

Today, as an organization with twenty-five years of experience, we work in 50 countries worldwide, serving nearly one million refugees and other forcibly displaced persons.

The Jesuit Refugee Service is a non-profit humanitarian organization whose mission is to a accompany, serve and advocate the rights of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. The association is part of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) international humanitarian organization founded in 1980.

Today, as an organization with twenty-five years of experience, we work in 50 countries worldwide, serving nearly one million refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. Given the different needs of displaced persons, JRS operates in a variety of ways: from assisting refugees in large refugee camps or cities, caring for displaced persons within their own country, advocating asylum seekers, to helping people locked in detention centers.

The international dimension of our organization (we operate in Europe in 18 countries) enables us to know different asylum systems, legal frameworks and integration measures and exchange of best practices. The same allows us to exchange rich experiences gained in different countries and cultures through direct contact with the people we serve. At the same time, this experience enables us to act on the geopolitical decision-making level at the European Parliament and the European Commission.

In Croatia, JRS has been active since 1993, taking care of the needs and rights of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons who had to flee from their place of residence before war or persecution. Since 2010 we have been specially dedicated to the needs of people coming to Croatia from African or Asian countries as asylum seekers fleeing persecution and war in search of security and protection.
